K:
This was a very informative and straight-forward show. Thanks for your candid take on this topic and your 13 rules. I have yet to meet my spirit guide, but I have successfully interacted with elementals during guided trance states.

So glad you're back! Hope you and yours had a blessed Samhain.

I agree with all the responses, I think you did very well especially your first interview and were much too hard on yourself. I was braced for obnoxiousness after your disclaimer, and found you to be straightforward and simply trying to guide things along :)

I would love to hear more from Golden Bird, the other people who posted covered the topics well. I would also love to see your notes that you passed to her, it was all so intriguing!

I enjoy your podcast and your interview with Golden Bird was good. I was hoping for more detail on her beliefs. Is there any way of contacting Golden Bird?
I'm trying to find a Goddess for myself from the that ancient time period. I have been researching Innana/Ishtar. But when I saw the Burney Relief on the internet showing Innana/Ishtar with an Owl on either side of the her got my attention. Owls play an important part in my family lore. I have tried to find more about the meaning of the Relief and the owls there-in with little success.
I was hoping that Golden Bird could guide me to scholarly papers regarding that Relief.

K:
Glad you're back!

I think you are too hard on yourself. The interview went quite well in my opinion. You seemed a little nervous, but I don't feel you did a poor job interviewing your subject. I really like hearing about unique or obscure spiritual paths. You covered all the bases: origins, ritual, spiritual connections, etc. You could ask future guests about how they manage a daily spiritual practice (if they do), how they came out of the broom closet (if they have), or if they have any stories of personal enlightenment or discovery they'd like to share concerning their path.

As for your segment on spiritual training, it was great! Just what I needed to hear. I really appreciate you sharing your experiences with us. It is always helpful to hear what others have done and gone through, to know that I'm not alone in my fumbling, and that I possess great potential. Thank you.

Looking forward to 'cast #13 and beyond!

Another good show. I'm sorry to hear about your health problems. I'm glad that you were able to get a podcast out.

I'd like to have a ghost experience. I keep trying to provide opportunities to have one but no experience yet in this world. I had an experience with formerly living spirits while farring forth once but I don't know if that qualifies.

I liked your music choices, especially the closing song. I hope you feel well enough to do another podcast soon. Be thou hail.

When I start to slack in my spiritual life, I start to see spiders everywhere. They are a sort of messenger or reminder from the Goddess that I need to get back on track. This is a pattern in my life that I wanted to share with you.

The spiders are never the poisonous variety or aggressive, but they show up in odd places, like on my computer screen at work, or on my car window, or wherever I happen to be. I usually try to capture the spider and take it outside, if we're not already there, as I believe them to be sacred messengers. And lately, it's not just the live variety either. I work in a library and just this week I saw a book cover featuring a large spider.

I don't consider this a problem. I see it as a divine messaging system. It's kinda cool. And I also make sure to thank the Goddess for gently nudging me back on track.

Great podcast by the way!
Yes, you can read this on your 'cast if you like.
Thanks!

I am changing the colors of my room that I do my pod cast in yadda yadda yadda..and kills 30 minutes talking about there lives go to a bumper and music and then 15 minuts to talk about pagan stuff wiccan stuff and thats the end of the show.. Keep up the great work..

Hey Mike blessings,
My path is all over the place. I love culture that is one of the reasons why I moved from Texas to Canada. I am Eclectic but I find that I am identifying with norse gods. Most of my life I was pulled to egyptian diety and then something hit me and I had this drive and passion to learn about Odin and thor..I find it funny that the lady that baby sat me would let me play with her stones that had markings in them she was my german nanny when I was younger and she had songs that she sing to me about them. I love all aspects of god and goddess and all there unique forms.
I have tryed to have just 1 set of gods and not call on the others, but to me when you do that you start putting limits on your self. Thoses gods are reflections of who you are..and how you see the world..

This is so fascinating. I agree with you, people should just focus on their own spirituality and stop trying to categorize others. People should focus on the issues surrounding paganism or discussions on spirituality. I have been trying to find a podcast that gets deeper than just who is a pagan or paganism 101, and yours in the best thus far!
This is such a great podcast. I can't wait to listen to the others! Keep going!

I just read the preceding post and I have definate with people deciding for other people which gods they can worship and which they can't. This is the same exact thing as the bible thumpers do to pagans in general. If someone wishes to honor the aesir, vanir and jotuns, it's none of your affair. Most of the aesir and vanir are married to jotuns any way. Heimdallr is a jotun. Loki is a jotun. Skadi is a jotun. Aegir is a jotun. Thor does not go and wipe out the jotuns. He goes after only certain jotuns. Saying "thou shalt not honor the jotun", is complete crap. Making that decision for your self is perfectly fine even if it's looking at Asatru through Christian colored, dualistic glasses. It's fine for you, it's wrong to push it onto other people.

Hi Mike, thanks for listening to the show. I know in modern Heathenry definitions change. Here is what K. Gundarsson classifies as a Wight, Land-Wight (spirits of nature as you said) and also Etins, Rises, Thurses and Trolls. Gundarsson translates the word Wight into simply "being".

Merriam-Webster has these entries; Middle English meaning creature, thing: from Old English wiht; akin to Old High German wiht, creature, thing. A living being, creature, especially a human being.

The word Wight is found in ritual poetry and hallowing's to refer to "out dwellers" i.e. Etins and the like. This is the use of the word I use, I refer to Land-Wights by the term Landvaettir or "spirits of the land" to make this distinction clear.

Thanks for the comment.

I just listened to the pod cast and I really enjoyed. I just had one comment. Wights are not spirits of people. They are spirits of the land or elemental forces. They can be friendly or unfriendly. They are never evil.

Heilsa Kveldrida,

Regarding the above comments about fairy wings, I believe that moral issues and good taste are two separate ideas. I tolerate bad taste not bad behavior. Lots of folks do stuff I don't and that's ok. Wings are in poor taste (but it's not a moral issue) but it is one of many reasons I don't frequent many PPD events.

Regarding your episode, I distinguish religiously moral wrongs. To date I have only found two that scream for my action: racism and Jotun worship (Fenris, Jormundgun and Surt). And I combat them as they cross my path.

What does that mean? Frankly not much, this is a free country and I believe in free speech. They do have their right to their wrong beliefs. Thus, my sole weapon is more free speech. I yell loud. I communicate my beliefs where and when I can. I hope that by sharing with people about my specfic practices. That I believe in a religion of spirituality, hope and joy for myself, my Community and my Gods.

And thanks for the plug. :)

Hi Dave to answer your question in the shortest way possible, yes fairy wings are fine. I feel to pretend that people wearing fairy wings is not part of Paganism is to lie but, far more important I am not going to tell people that their freedom to be themselves is dependent on a "group think" idea of how Pagans should behave. I have always had the attitude of "grin and bear it" when the more unconventional folks dress or act different from me in a public setting, it is their right. By the way, fairy wings would be considered not worth mentioning at Pagan Pride here in Seattle, people are far more outlandish here.
